OPENING ACT OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF ``LA NAU GRAN´´ - UNIVERSITY OF VALENCIA

Last Thursday 6th October it took place the opening act of the academic year 2016/17 of ``La Nau Gran´´ - University of Valencia on the Botanic Garden of this university.

The opening conference was given by the Honorable Mrs Mónica Oltra Jarque, Vice President and Equality and Inclusive Policies Counselor of "La Generalitat Valenciana". Her conference had per title "To live better, to live more".

They also participated Esteban Morcillo, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Valencia, Concha Bru, President of AEPUM, Ramón López, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Policies for Formation and Educative Quality and Amparo Pérez, Director of the Service of University Extension on this university.

VERDICT OF THE JURY “RESEARCH AWARD OF THE SPANISH NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY PROGRAMMES FOR OLDER ADULTS 2016”

The jury, unanimously, delivers the award to the project with the title: “LA IMPLICACIÓN EN ACTIVIDADES EDUCATIVAS FORMALES EN LA VEJEZ Y SU RELACIÓN CON INDICADORES PSICOLÓGICOS Y SOCIALES: UN ANÁLISIS CON ESTUDIANTES DEL AULA DE LA EXPERIENCIA DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE HUELVA”, submitted by S. MENÉNDEZ ÁLVAREZ-DARDET (Huelva University) and J. PÉREZ-PADILLA (Jaen University).

The XARXA VIVES organizes a conference and forum Vives on the 16th and 17th of June at the University of Andorra. It is about the University Programmes for Seniors and is coordinated by the University of Lleida, University of Vic-Central University of Cataluña and University of Andorra.

The VIVES NETWORK represents and coordinates the common action of 21 universities of 4 European states of higher education, research and culture. In addition, since 1994 it offers a platform that leads services for universities, public and private organizations, and society with the aim of contributing to the growth process and social and economical development of this cross-border university region of the Mediterranean Europe.

Some of the activities it promotes are exchange and reflection events about topics of interest that are key to the growth and development of university education in the Vives region, and, ultimately, of society’s future in general. Therefore, on the next 16th and 17th of June, the University of Andorra will hold a Vives Forum event about the Univeristy Programmes for seniors with the aim of creating a first encounter. This encounter aims at sharing experiences and studying opportunities of common or shared action between the different University Programmes for Seniors of the XARXA VIVES universities. In this way, this university specific education will be reinforced.

PROFESSOR SALVADOR CABEDO HAS BEEN AWARDED HONORARY DIRECTOR OF THE UJI SENIOR UNIVERSITY BY THE DEAN OF THE JAUME I UNIVERSITY OF CASTELLÓN

The act of appointing the Prof. Salvador Cabedo as Honorary Director of the Senior University took place on the 27th of April 2016 at 18:00 in the assembly hall Alfons el Magnánimo at the Faculty of Law and Economics.

Next year the University of Jaume I of Castelló will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Its 18-year training programme of the Senior University will be celebrated as well, which reaches the age of majority.

The Senior University was started at the Jaume I University of Castellón in 1998 by the professor Salvador Cabedo and his team. They were convinced that education is the most effective tool to build a fair and united society, where generations respect each other, support each other and live together in harmony.

THE SUBJECT OF THE CITIZEN BEFORE JUSTICE: “LAW AND ENGAGEMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF EXPERIENCE IN LA RIOJA” HAS BEEN AWARDED TEACHING INNOVATION PRIZE

Premio Innovación Docente La Rioja

Pedro M.ª Garciandía, professor of Criminal Law at the University of La Rioja (UR), has been awarded the Teaching Innovation Prize from the Social Council of the UR for his course “The citizen before justice: Law and engagement of the University of Experience in La Rioja”.

The yearly call of Prizes from the Social Council of the University of La Rioja tries to acknowledge the work done by the university community members and to strengthen the relations and connections between the campus and the Riojan society.

Specifically, the Teaching Innovation Prize expects to acknowledge the educational work and the innovative experiences carried out by the professors of the University of La Rioja. In this edition, the award was given to José Antonio Gómez Cristóbal, professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the UR, and to Pedro M.ª Garciandía.

PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK "15 AÑOS DE LA NAU GRAN"

The book “15 años de la Nau Gran” will be presented on the following 24th of February 2016 at 18:30. It will take place in the assembly hall of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication. Spokespeople will be Ramón López Martín, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Training and Educational Quality Policy, and Amparo Pérez Carbonell, Director of the University Extension Service. Another participant will be Joan Calabuig, Deputy Mayor and Councillor Responsable for older adults of Valencia city council. He will give a speech called “Older adults policy in Valencia City”.  

This publication is a collection of experiences of the figures that have enabled the programme La Nau Gran to become an educational model established in Valencia City and the University of València.

La Nau Gran programme was started 15 years ago, when in 1999 the University of Valencia launched a programme to open the doors to people over 55, who are motivated and willing to keep learning.
