THE SUBJECT OF THE CITIZEN BEFORE JUSTICE: “LAW AND ENGAGEMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF EXPERIENCE IN LA RIOJA” HAS BEEN AWARDED TEACHING INNOVATION PRIZE

Pedro M.ª Garciandía, professor of Criminal Law at the University of La Rioja (UR), has been awarded the Teaching Innovation Prize from the Social Council of the UR for his course “The citizen before justice: Law and engagement of the University of Experience in La Rioja”.

The yearly call of Prizes from the Social Council of the University of La Rioja tries to acknowledge the work done by the university community members and to strengthen the relations and connections between the campus and the Riojan society.

Specifically, the Teaching Innovation Prize expects to acknowledge the educational work and the innovative experiences carried out by the professors of the University of La Rioja. In this edition, the award was given to José Antonio Gómez Cristóbal, professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the UR, and to Pedro M.ª Garciandía.

Pedro M.ª Garciandía, professor of Criminal Law at the University of La Rioja, got the award for the project “The citizen before justice: Law and engagement”, that is part of the educational project of the University of Experience in La Rioja. This project attends to the recommendations agreed in the Meetings of University Programmes for Older Adults.

This educational initiative intends to provide citizens with basic legal information. It involves students in the development of their own learning in an active way, considers an assessment system that fosters the student’s progress, tries to meet the students’ variety of interests and aspirations, and gradually makes use of the new ICTs in the teaching process.
