THE VICE-CHANCELLORS OF THE CRUPV CREATE THE UNIVERSITY PROGRAMMES NETWORK FOR OLDER ADULTS OF THE VALENCIAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES
The five Valencian public universities have constituted this Wednesday on the La Marina University Venue, located in the city of Benissa (Alicante), the University Programmes Network for older adults of the Valencian Public Universities (CRUPV), a strategic choice constituted by the five Valencian principals on the day that Manuel Palomar, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Alicante, has taken charge of the Vice-Chancellors´ Conference of the Valencian Public Universities (CRUPV). The act, celebrated on the University of Alicante Venue in Benissa, counted with the presence of the five Vice-Chancellors: Manuel Palomar (UA), Esteban Morcillo (UVEG), Francisco José Mora (UPV), Vicent Climent (UJI) and Jesús Pastor (UMH).
As Manuel Palomar, UA Vice-Chancellor has explained ``it is a commitment that the Valencian Public Universities have made a long time ago and which now we are taking a step further with the constitution of this network to face and achieve the challenges that the population of older adults in our territory presents us´´. The new current president of the CRUPV has highlighted that it is about promoting and drawing attention ``their active participation on society, on the familiar sphere, on the lifelong learning, volunteering or in the cultural expression and sports´´. The creation of the University Programmes Network for Older Adults answers the need to promote a major formed citizenship, active, and participative on an inclusive society and for all ages.
The Valencian Public Universities, which are integrated in the Spanish Association of University Programmes for Older Adults (AEPUM) reinforce this way their job on these specific teachings for older adults, and have taken an important step in creating the Valencian Network with the aim of enhancing, even more, the university as an environment that promotes the formation of older adults in the society, with new educative, formative and cultural structures; establishing collaboration and exchange channels; favouring the research in formative programmes for an active ageing; favouring the exchange of good practices and experiences; promoting the jointly work between universities and entities; agreeing on strategic lines, enabling common projects, achieving funding; making visible the educative community on the sense of lifelong learning; and enhancing the participation on international programmes, amongst others.
To the act, apart from the five Vice-Chancellors of the Valencian Public Universities, they have also assisted the five academic directors of the University Programmes for Older Adults in the different universities (Elsa González, UJI; Amparo Pérez, UVEG; Ana Muñoz, UPV; Esther Sitges, UMH and Concha Bru, UA) as well as the Deputy Vice-Chancellors with responsibilities in this area (Enrique Herrero, Ramón López, Rosa Puchades) and the General Director of Universities, Research and Science of the Valencian Community, Josefina Bueno and the Mayor of Benissa, Abel Cardona and members of the corporation who have wanted to support this important agreement with their presence.
