Brief description:
The University for Older Adults (from now on UpM) gathers educational experiences that try to make possible the access to Higher Education to people older than 50 years old.
Given its quick growth along the last fifteen years, the legal and institutional panorama that this kind of training offers shows an important amount of gaps and contradictions: the lack of legal regulation to protect these activities for lifelong learning at the universities, institutional invisibility; its marginal character in the Institutions, etc.
This project wants to carry out a critical revision, thinking about the outreach, limitations and new perspectives of this kind of training in order to make changes, as soon as possible, in the international panorama.
Among others, the main topics of this website will be: characteristics that must me adopted in the teachings, researches and studies carried out in this field, getting to know the individual and group profiles of these new groups that are joining Higher Education. We invite you to join us and participate.

Specific aims:
  1. Prepare a theory framework that will show the main teaching and learning models used for older adults considering the educational experiences already carried out until now, in the national and international context. Analyze if those models are already known by the teachers of the UpM and if they are of any help when planning their teaching.
  1. Analyze the teachers of each one of the University Programs for Older Adults that take part in the study, in order to know their similarities and differences as well as each teacher's peculiarities when planning his or her teachings.
  1. Analyze how teachers select the contents, materials, methodologies and evaluation proceedures that they are going to use when teaching older aduls.
  1. Get to know the proposals to improve the teaching activity carried out by the teaching staff and the limitations that they meet when trying to put them into practice.
  1. Get to know which are the teaching methods that are more appreciated by the students, as well as getting to know their suggestions for improvement and the difficulties that they meet in their learning.
  1. Spread the good practice arisen from the study among the UpM of Spain and Latin America. Therefore, a guide will be elaborated with examples of the different types of good practice found among the teachers and another guide with learning resources for the students.
  1. Create a Website that will spread such guides and the reports of this study.
