Abstract
The Older Adults education deals with different requirements and goals than those of the youth or other adults education. In this context, older adults (people older than 65 or retired) don't have professional needs when attending to class, as it would happen with younger students.
Their goals are related to personal interests, sociability, adaptability and integration into current society, participation, active citizenship and, above all, improving their life quality by means of a lifelong learning process. The improvement of the older adults life quality becomes the goal to reach by an adequate social-educational intervention.
It is not advisable to apply the same methodology used with younger students to teach older adults. Institutions must redesign the methods, strategies and goals to maximize the quality and the impact of the social-educational activities offered to the older adults. Therefore, some kind of help, guide or tool to be used by the Institutions is essential.
This project wants to create two complementary products. The first one is a guide with Basic Education Fundamentals for Older Adults and different strategies to optimize the results of the Institution using this methodology. The second product is an Evaluation Toolkit to measure the quality of the education process with suggestions to increase this quality.
The guide is aimed at Institutions (Principalships, Managers) and educators (tutors, teachers). It offers them practical information to be put into practice in their Institutions, but it can also be used as an external evaluation or credentials.
The aim is also to produce an impact in the Research fields and in regional and national comunities to promote the quality and the innovation of an educational method for older adults that brings great advantages and opportunities for both the older adults and the society in general.
