"THE CHALLENGES THAT UNIVERSITY PROGRAMMES FOR OLDER ADULTS FACE BECAUSE OF THE LOU (THE ORGANIC LAW ON UNIVERSITIES) REFORM"
ALICANTE 15 AND 16 DECEMBER 2005

Goals: This seminar pursues to make a methodological working proposal to know and evaluate: 

  • The trends on adult and senior education in Spain. Permanent training and lifelong learning.
  • The current situation of University Programmes for Older Adults in Spain.

 

Objectives: Based on the aforesaid,

  • Propose a discussion on models and rules for its regulation and development on the brink of a new LOU reform.
  • Give effective answers to the current and future education needs of older adults inside the European Higher Education Area.

 

Work Plan: Based on the aforesaid goals and objectives, a work plan has been conceived. This work plan will be followed by experts and university managers that will take part in the Seminar according to this agenda:

  • Plenary sessions with the speakers of the meetings held by the framework presentations.
  • Creation a posteriori of working groups by areas of analysis coordinated by a moderator. These working groups will elaborate, from this presentation, studies, proposals and documents that will be submitted, discussed and approved (where appropriate) in the final plenary meeting.
  • Prepare the basic elements of a report/contrast study to be sent to MEC (Ministry of Education and Culture) and to the suitable Commissions of the European Parliament in charge of the European Higher Education Area. 

 

Aimed at:

  • Academic and technical heads of Spanish and foreign Universities that offer University Programmes for Older Adults.
  • Institutional and academic heads, members of the Spanish National Association of University Programmes for Older Adults.
